TechTip: Installing New Memory on a Desktop Computer

I have finally experienced actually installing RAM memory on my father’s HP computer. It was a first for me but I came away from that with more experience. I know now how to install memory on desktops. It is so easy, at least that was the impression I had before I actually did it. To be fair it is probably the most easiest thing to install internally in a desktop computer then anything else.

Trust me I made mistakes during installing. I even thought I had screwed my dad by breaking his computer. I will try and type all the details of what I did so incase you are planning on or are doing a memory install you can look at my mistakes and not do them. First off, I will post the video I used to help me as a guide…

^That’s for a HP brand computer. Of course it can apply to any brand or you can simply find one on youtube that applies to your brand of computer.

Open your tower up. Make sure you touch a doorknob before performing any installation in your computer. It will save you from static electricity damage. You are inside. Looks for your memory slot. You might have one or two RAM memories. Take them out by releasing the two white snaps on the left and right side of the memory slots. These secure the memory in place. That’s important to remmeber and I will tell you why later. Ok after that unpack your new memory you wish to install, if you haven’t already done so.

Match up the bottom ends of your new memory to the slots. Now this is where I went wrong. Make sure you push the memory down hard (but not too hard it will break it). You must do so until the white snaps snaps down on the side of the memory where a little part is cut out. Not making sure it’s secure in the slot will cause many problems. Which I encountered. These problems can be power not going to the moniter, power not starting up at all. If you turn on your computer and it beeps two or three times that means the memory isn’t securely in place. Trust me thinking you broke you computer will make you go crazy. So just make sure you securely push it down til those snaps snap into place. From there you are all done. Just put everything back together and you are ready to go.

My father has been enjoying a faster computer experience ever since. And hgopefully you will be too. And if you are curious as to where to buy some memory. I have bought from premiummemory.com and they are very trusted by me. That’s all for now. Peace.
