TechTip: Choppy Video/Overheating Laptop

I know how many computer type of problems can be down right frustrating at times when you experience them. More so when you have gone to tech support sites that either offer help for free or for a small amount "donation". Maybe it will work and in some cases it doesn’t help jack shit.

I recently ran into a problem with my Sony Vaio laptop (yeah a hand me down from my brother who moved to NY last year). Anyways, I would get choppy video where ever I went be it Youtube, Dailymotion, ect. I would even get choppy video when I straight downloaded the full file to my HDD. So yeah I like almost anyone in need of help serached google and went to many tech support boards. I got a few amount of support but not FIX. This was like maybe 8 or 9 weeks ago. Then I started experiencing extreme heat om the wrist parts of the laptop, the touch mouse, and the back end. I didn’t know what to do. I then stumble upon a site suggesting a check of dust near or around the fan. Long behold to keep the story short I followed the directions (to a ceratin point because I didn’t have any compressed air cans around). I cleaned the circulation near and around the fan that you could see clumps of dust and dirty. I used a simple cotton q-tip and cleaned as best as I could.

Usually you wouldn’t know the difference but I did. Immeditately my whole laptop cooled down very fast. The air flow seemed to be going to where it was suppose to be going to. I haven’t had a problem with overheating and the surprise bonus. Videos don’t play choppy and work like the machine was just bought new. It really helped. So there you go my tech tip of the day. If you have a laptop and experienced either overheating and/or choppy video playback please check out  this article!!! This is a good read and may just help you cure what is wrong with your laptop. That’s all folks!

  2. That’s awesome man. I just hope I can help more people because cleaning really does help make things go alot smoother. Especially if you haven’t cleaned your venting areas and/or fan for 7 years like mine was. lol
